You can't tell much about a new job after one week. What I have been able to tell, is that getting to spend a few hours with Alexandra every morning is great. I've seen more of her development first hand this week, than I have all year.
Early in potty training, once in awhile, Alexandra used to get an m&m. She never forgot. Nearly early every time I put her on the potty, she asks for one. When you tell her no, she quickly switches to asking for a vitamin, then a sticker.
On Thursday I got her up, and put her on the potty. She did well, like usual. She asked for an m&m, like usual, then a vitamin.
"I'm sorry honey, we're all out of vitamins."
"Go car. Go store. Get vitamins."
There wasn't a pause, there wasn't a question. I was floored. She can create and verbalise plans. Now I've got to wonder, is this the first new big thing I got to see because of my new hours? Or is this the first thing I've noticed I've missed because of my old hours?

Liberation in self burial
On April 16th, at 5:01PM, I'm burying myself.
To be more precise, not my physical self, and I'm having cron do the dirty work for me.
April 16th is my last day at Tootsie Roll Industries, where I am the linux sysadmin. One of the things sysadmins do is remove users.
I could leave it for the other sysadmin to do, once I'm gone, but there is something very appealing about removing myself. So at 5PM, the servers will all talk to Matt, instead of to me. At 5:01PM, a log will record all the permissions of all the accounts I have, and sweep all my files into a removed-users graveyard.
This is my way of cleaning my desk, and turning out the light once I'm gone.
I love being a linux syadmin, and I've loved working at this candy company, but now I'm off to smaller, and better, things.

Happy Birthday to You!!!!!
I realized that I still needed to post the pics from Alexandra's birthday!
She had a great Birthday, 2 parties. The first one was on her actual Birthday and we had my cousins and their girls over(Emily, Kylie, and Corrina) and her little friend Kloe. It was a blast! Very fun. Pizza and Cupcakes, Toys and even a few tears (Alexandra tripped on one of the trips around the kitchen during a game of chase).

Canada is part of the US (According to American Airlines)
Canada is now officially part of the US! I would like to congratulate it on becoming the real fifty-first state!
That's right, at least according to American Airlines.
When checking in to fly to Toronto for training, a sign on the AA desk clearly said '$25 for the first bag, domestic. First bag free on international flights.' You can imagine my surprise when they asked for my credit card to charge me for the bag. I suggested that Canada was another country, but didn't complain much (I'll get reimbursed by work).
Again, welcome all canadians, you're now American citizens (according to American Airlines).
